They will place their hands on sick people,

and they will get well.”- Jesus

In the afternoons we do house visits. The other day instead of just picking someone’s house to go to, we decided to ATL it. ATL stands for Ask the Lord. One o’clock came around and we got ready to head out. We walked outside the gate and stood by the dirt road that comes up to the base. We got in a circle and started to pray; pray for what direction we should go, that’s all we needed for now. After a couple minutes of praying I looked up and asked everyone if they were getting anything. Everyone nodded a no, so I told them that I felt like God was telling me that we should go to the right, down the dirt road towards the mountains that are around the base. So, we headed out.

A couple weeks prior to this, Bryan, Blair, and I had walked down this road. We started to talk about how the houses around us are the same as the ones you see on TV. That stereotypical hut, you know what I’m talking about! Anyway, we had started to talk about them because we had just passed one, and as I looked at the house I got a weird feeling, like maybe we were supposed to go to it. We kept walking and shortly after I stop thinking about it. We eventually turned around and came back to the base.

So, we headed out and as we were walking I felt like we should go to that house. When we had been praying I saw a picture or the house in my mind, but I didn’t think much of it. As we approached the house a boy was standing around the fence that surrounded the premises. One of our translators started to talk to him, but he seemed very shy. Bryan put out his hand to shake the kid’s hand, and the boy back away. It was weird! Another one of our translators asked the boy if anyone was at home with him, and he said that his mother and grandmother were there. We decided to go in and visit the home. We entered the hut, and sat down on some mats on the floor. We soon began to tell them who we were and what we were doing. We asked the lady how she was feeling because she looked sick. She told us that she hadn’t been well for the last couple weeks. Her body had been so weak that she had gone to a hospital where they had to give her blood. She had slowly been recovering, but she still couldn’t walk much because how weak her body was. We asked if we could pray for her, and she said yes, so we started to pray.

The girls started to pray, but Bryan and I both felt that we needed to lay our hands on the lady and declare healing over her. So, I asked if we could do that, and she said yes. I started to pray and do exactly what Jesus sent us out to do. Bryan prayed after me. After praying, we talked for a little while and then decided to head out. As we walked outside, the women called one of our translators back in the hut and told him that she felt better. She could feel strength in her body once again. She told him that the demons were all gone, which blew our minds, but the funny things is that we didn’t only pray for physical healing. That’s our God!!!

Walking back to the base made me think of how much we’re called to do in obedience. Jesus wasn’t kidding when he sent us out. This life wasn’t meant to simply do the things Jesus called us to do that seemed most convenient to us. I no longer find joy in sitting around, I need to be Jesus! I don’t want to settle for less!

Glory be to God!

  1. Jon,
How exciting! God is so faithful to show up in a mighty way when we are obedient!

A-FREAKING-MEN, BROTHER. If I were sitting next to you, there would be an epic high-five happening right now. BAM!
Be encouraged, man of God 🙂

  3. Sometimes I think, we don’t do what Jesus did, b/c we don’t do what Jesus did. He simply did what his daddy told him to do. Hearing God’s voice and than doing what He says is always the key. Praise God, what a wonderful testimony!
